Just what is marcasite?

Marcasite ladyMarcasite is, to mineralogists, “an unstable form of iron sulphide crystallising in the rhombic system”.  I thought I’d get that out ASAP as it doesn’t mean much to me.

What does mean something to me is that it’s a grey metal that is used in the creation of jewellery especially with silver.  It was extremely popular in Victorian times and is still used now and a lot of designers use it for a retro / vintage look which it’s extremely good at.

Due to me liking the look of marcasite jewellery, I’ve gone out of my way to bring in a collection from our suppliers.  We have categorised it for easy browsing – the categories are:
