Here’s something interesting about turquoise: initially, this substance was known by a lot of different names, but the word turquoise was derived around 16th century from French, either from the word for Turkish (Turquois) or dark-blue stone (which is pierre turquin in french). Although turquoise doesn’t occur in Turkey, it was heavily traded at turkish bazaars to the venetian merchants, which then brought it to Europe, so this might have been a bit of a misconception
Just a funny thing which I thought you might like to know.
Moving on to today’s item, this pair of teardrop turquoise earrings come from Kit Heath’s Vintage collection, and they include a presentation box as do all of our Kit Heath products. The stones are natural and have a blue-ish colour.
They come mounted on a sterling silver setting. If you want to give these as a gift, you can order the gift wrap for only £2 from the product page.

Yes, Anna from Manchester, that nice pair of citrine earrings I showed you yesterday does, in fact, have a complementary necklace
And, as I promised you on the phone last evening, here’s a picture and a short presentation of it:
The design is basically the same as for the earrings, made out of two circles (well, three if you count the stone as a separate one). It does not include a chain, but order whichever type and length you like on the product page, as we have a wide selection here at Milton Gems.

Butterflies have long been a favourite of jewellery makers and there are some beautiful pieces about which have been designed around a butterfly. Two examples we have is the butterfly earrings (picture to the left) and a butterfly pendant (picture below). Both are part of the same set and they are made from 9ct yellow gold. The wings on the butterfly pendant holds 0.06ct worth of diamonds and the butterfly earrings wings also hold 0.06ct (spread over the two earrings, of course).
Click on either of the pictures to take a closer look at the butterflies. They can be seen in our diamond jewellery category.
Updated…
We have just added some more butterfly pieces onto the site. An example can be seen to the left – a silver pendant with paua shell. The blues and greens from this beautiful New Zealand shell makes for an attractive piece of jewellery. You can see more of the butterfly pendant here.

Hi
I’ve thought that it would be a good idea to everyday take an item that we’ve sold and give a sort of a review on it. Most of the items on Milton Gems have a bit of a short description but we rely on the images to give you information. I’m going to try and change that a little here with the reviews.
I’m not 100% sure on what I’m going to write about next – perhaps a nice marcasite pendant…
