Flower Shaped Marcasite Pendant

I’ve heard it both ways: some say it looks like a two stars pendant, some say it looks like flowers, but either way it’s just as pretty.

It’s fairly large, just below 4 centimeters in length, and it has a nice engraving made out of marcasite stones on a sterling silver setting.

I was thinking of buying something like this for granny as a classy Christmas gift, but I haven’t decided exactly which of the marcasite jewellery I should get, other then the fact that I’ve already decided it will be something with marcasite stones.

Category Walkthrough – What On Earth Are They?

Each category on Milton Gems has it popular items and one thing I would like to start doing is to list them in an easily seen way. To do this, I’m going to start doing a category walkthrough (or walkthru if you’re from the United Stated). Basically, I’ll go through the pages of a category and show images of the most popular pieces. Simple as that. And I’m going to start with silver bracelets!

Gift Wrap Service and Deluxe Presentation Boxes Available

Just a quick note saying that we at Milton Gems try to provide as good a service as possible to our customers and one of the ways we thought we can provide that is by offering a jewellery gift wrap service. For a small fee, we will hand gift wrap your jewellery and write your message on a gift tag – just let us know at checkout (there’s a box to write the message) and we’ll do our utmost.

We also have a range of jewellery presentation boxes that you can choose to have your item sent out in and these especially go with the gift wrap.

Please note that not every item has the option to have a presentation box or gift wrap for example Kit Heath items automatically come with a presentation box.

The Joys of the Silver Jewellery Trade

The title of this post says what I feel, I suppose – selling silver jewellery and gold jewellery (come to think of it) is a funny old game. You do it for a while and you think you know a little and then something stumps you. Take the silver necklace to the left, for example. A nice piece. An attractive piece. But I wasn’t sure if it would sell. I put it on Milton Gems and left it to see what happened. I expected to sell a little but I think the fact that the necklace was a little different caught peoples eye and it’s currently our most popular item.

So, moral of the story – sell a range of items because you can never tell and you’re more likely to have a piece that sells like hot cakes.

Anyway, I’m off to make sure we have enough of the necklaces and order some more.

New Pieces – Paua Shell Jewellery

We have been busy putting more items on the site and that includes a batch of beautiful paua shell jewellery.

I’m in the process of putting together an article on paua shell – it comes from the sea around New Zealand but the greens and blues are amazing.

We have two paua shell category pages at the moment – we are going to see how popular they prove to be and, if they’re liked by customers as much as I like them, we’ll be putting more on.

Valentine Jewellery Gifts

It’s coming up to that time again – 14th February and Valentines day. And what better way of showing your feelings to your loved one than by a beautiful piece of gold or silver jewellery?

We at Milton Gems have made a new category of jewellery – a Valentines / Romantic Jewellery category and inside there are 4 sub categories of jewellery – valentine earrings, bracelets / bangles, necklaces and pendants. Put in those categories are pieces of silver and gold jewellery with a romantic theme – mainly hearts.

So, if you want to send a gift that will be treasured, choose a piece of jewellery. For a small charge, we will even nicely gift wrap it and write your message!

Christmas is almost here!

Well, the jewellery blog hasn’t been updated as much as I would have liked lately – with the Christmas rush it’s been all hands to the pump trying to make sure that the presents people were ordering were getting to them on time. There’s going to be quite a few people who open their presents on Christmas morning and see new pieces of silver and gold jewellery. I sure hope they like their gifts and that the work was worth while.

This year has certainly seen an increase in marcasite jewellery being bought. We have always had a fair few sales of it but this year it seems more fashionable than ever which I’m happy to see. No. 1 is marcasite earrings – they always go down well as gifts. Next in popularity were marcasite pendants. The most popular item by far in marcasite over Christmas is a marcasite locket shaped like a heart. We had a little review of the locket if you’d like to have a look.

All in all, a very satisfactory Christmas trading period. We’ve had some very encouraging comments made about our stock and our new supplier of gold jewellery has certainly been a good find – we shall be putting more gold earrings and gold pendants on the site as well as other types of gold jewellery such as necklaces and bracelets.

Amber Jewellery

Today has been a busy day – we have been putting on a large amount of gold jewellery – mainly gold pendants and gold earrings.

Some of the items that caught my eye were made from amber. Personally, I like it – perhaps it’s the thought that it’s resin from trees that are millions of years old or perhaps it’s just that the colours are all different.

Anyway, we have put up an amber jewellery page – have a look at some items and see what you think.

There’s only a small amber jewellery selection at the moment but it’s very much of a tester. If it proves popular than expect to see more amber from us – both gold amber and silver amber.

Jewellery categorised by gemstone/material

Just a quick post. To try and make things a little easier for browsers, I have categoriesed jewellery pieces by the type of gemstone/material they have so, for example, if there is a silver bracelet with green agate, mother of pearl and onyx, I would put that bracelet in each of those categoties (but no…we don’t have any onyx, mother of pearl and green agate bracelets!). I hope people find that useful. The jewellery category list is here.
