These gorgeous earrings from the Iced Gems collection by designer Kit Heath are 33 by 12 millimeters, and go perfectly with the necklace presented here by me the other day.

They’re a really classy pair of earrings and the girlfriend is looking at their picture with lust in here eyes right now at the time I’m writing this article. Too bad for he she’s not born in December, hihihi.

Here’s something interesting about turquoise: initially, this substance was known by a lot of different names, but the word turquoise was derived around 16th century from French, either from the word for Turkish (Turquois) or dark-blue stone (which is pierre turquin in french). Although turquoise doesn’t occur in Turkey, it was heavily traded at turkish bazaars to the venetian merchants, which then brought it to Europe, so this might have been a bit of a misconception Just a funny thing which I thought you might like to know.

Moving on to today’s item, this pair of teardrop turquoise earrings  come from Kit Heath’s Vintage collection, and they include a presentation box as do all of our Kit Heath products. The stones are natural and have a blue-ish colour.

Earrings are one of our best sold items, and these circular citrine ones from Kit Heat’s Organics collection are a nice piece of handwork.

Today I will show you a really nice pair of earrings from the Kit Heath Iced Gems series, made out of 925 sterling silver and with genuine turquoise stones.

Pay attention though, as these are pretty long at over 5 centimeters in length, and might not be for everybody. There are ladies out there that don’t like longer earrings, or they simply don’t fit them.

Today I want to talk to you a bit about the birthstone of December, turquoise. For those of you unfamiliar with this rare stone, it’s an opaque, blue to green mineral that has been prized both as a gem and ornamental stone for thousands of years.

I for one really like the colour of turquoise. In my humble opinion, it looks really great on a silver setting. Take a look at this silver bracelet with turquoise stones:

True enough: the silver is very craftily positioned around the three blue-greenish stones. The shape of the stones is accompanied very nicely byt the silver oval-shaped rings as well. It’s about 7 ½ inches long, and indeed a really nice piece of work by designer Kit Heath, and only one of the many jewelery choices on our turquoise jewellery selection!

Out of all the beautiful birthstones we have on jewellry here ate Milton Gems, Amethyst must be one of my favorite ones. Or maybe it’s just that I love purple, I don’t know, but I truly honestly believe this pair of amethyst drop earrings are simply gorgeous!

I like the way the stone is cut on these ones best. It has a lot of facets, some small and some larger, but they’re all clean-cut and capture the light in a special way.

I’ve heard it both ways: some say it looks like a two stars pendant, some say it looks like flowers, but either way it’s just as pretty.

It’s fairly large, just below 4 centimeters in length, and it has a nice engraving made out of marcasite stones on a sterling silver setting.

Yesterday I showed you a really nice pair of earrings, but I realize now those might not be for everybody. I certainly like them and so do my myspace female friends I asked what they thought, but some women would rather wear something smaller.

Not sure if you remember but last week I showed you a piece from our inventory from designer kit heath, a twisted silver and amethyst pendant. So the girlfriend was a bit upset this weekend when I stayed out a bit too much on Friday night with the guys. What can I say… it’s not my fault she doesn’t like the pub, I asked her to go along. She didn’t wanna go and it’s still me that is responsible? I don’t get this stuff sometimes…

Anyways, I managed to make it better buy buying her this marcasite locket that’s shaped like a heart, and although it cost me £40 it was worth it, cuz now I won’t have to get her anything for our anniversary  this month. In fact I made sure of it and I told here this was an early present.

Of course, I also put a nice picture of us inside (one which she likes) and I also picked up a nice silver necklace from the store. Let’s just say everything’s fine in the “family” now

By the way, I was also considering this other heart with silver filigree, from kit heath, but ultimately decided to go for the locket, since I wanted to add that personal touch with the picture of us.

The knot is is one of the best known motifs in Celtic jewelry and art. There are quite a few celtic symbol guides available that list variations of the celtic knots, but many of the purported meanings of the symbols are actually made up. Believe it or not, some folks would con you into buying their trinkets or jewellery by telling you their designs mean “love” or “honour” or whatever else, when there are in fact no known authentic knotwork designs meaning such things.

So I won’t tell you that this pendant from Kit Heath means “undying love” or “forever faithful” or anything like that. But I will tell you instead that it is one of the best stylized representations of a celtic knot you will ever find in a pendant.

It’s quite lovely really; the clear, purple amethyst stone on the shiny silver bed give it a feeling of distinctiveness which you won’t find in many pieces. The chain is not included, but it can be ordered without any hassle right on the product page in any length you find to be most appropriate.

Packing an order for one of our customers yesterday I noticed this pair of silver earrings with marcasite stones that I didn’t even know were in our inventory (as some of you know, I’m rather new here at Milton Gems).

I must say, the finesse of the handiwork on these earrings is quite impressive. They’re not too small, at 14 mm in diameter, but not too big either, and they’re shaped in the form of flower petals. I bet they’d make a pretty set, combined with our double marcasite star pendant which you can find here.

Funny story about amethyst folks. The name comes from the Ancient Greek a- ("not") and methustos ("intoxicated"), and these poor people actually believed that the stone protected them from drunkenness. Now, why the bloody hell would anyone want to protect himself from that, I do not know, but apparently these fellows made drinking vessels out of amethyst in the hopes they would not get intoxicated with liquor.

I’m not sure if you were aware of this or not, but The beautiful birthstone of November, citrine, is a pretty rare precious stone. It’s why we get so many fake ones on the market these days. Mostly cheap, lousy colored glass.

Paua shell comes from the seas around New Zealand and the beautiful green and blue colours are used to great effect in paua shell jewellery.

This butterfly pendant is shaped like a butterfly in silver and inlaid with paua shell.  It comes from the famous designer Kit Heath and while it doesn’t include a chain, one can be ordered at the same time.

I’ve just added three more silver charms and all of them certainly go bling!  Studded with clear cubic zirconia stones, they catch the light beautifully.  They are not small (especially the starfish charm which is approx 37mm), the heart charm is roughly 21mm and the snowflake charm is around 17.5mm.

All have a lobster claw so they can be worn on bracelets, necklaces, handbags or whatever you want to clip them on.

Today we’ve added a few new silver charms to our collection.  One that I think will be popular is pictured to the left – they’re initials charms.  You can choose the letter you want and because of the way they’re made (with a lobster claw) they can be attached to a chain to make an initial necklace, or bracelet.  They can even be added, of course, to handbags, zips, mobile phones and the like.  Perfect for giving to someone you love – just don’t forget and send them the wrong letter!

Two other charms we’ve added are shown below - a pair of scissors charm and a flower flip flop charm.  The scissors don’t open (just wanted to put that in) but as with all our charms, they’re incredibly detailed and would be a great gift to give to a hairdresser.  The flip flop is pink and green enamel set in silver and made to remind you of summer days!

I shall be putting more silver charms up tomorrow – I think it might be a heart day in honour of Valentines Day that’s just been.

As promised, I’ve been adding more silver charms to Milton Gems.  Not too many today but I felt in a red mood – all the charms are a nice, bright red colour!

The first one you can see to the left is a five pointed star charm.  As always, with a lobster claw so you can fix it easily.

Below you can see two more charms.  What better way to celebrate summer than with a nice, juicy red strawberry?  Well, I can’t guarantee you the sun and nice weather but we can send you a strawberry charm to remind you of better weather.  And give a symbol of your love with the red heart charm – show someone you care.

Apart from the silver charms that we added yesterday (and we’re going to be adding some more today) we have added some more exciting pieces of silver jewellery.

The necklace to the left is of crystals and silver and it’s on a 17 1/2 inch rubber thong – all in all, an unusual necklace.

We’ve added 2 more new necklaces and can be seen below.

My personal favourite is the 3 colour flower necklace – it’s simple, elegant and effective.  Three different flowers each with a different colour.  The chain is approx 16 inches long and each flower is around 33mm in size and in total the necklace weight about 23grams.

Another necklace with a flower is the bright silver one shown – the silver has a hammered finish which is effective.  The chain is approx 17 1/2 inches and the flower is around 29 mm in size.  Check out the flower necklace here.

I’m just in the process of adding a new category to Milton Gems – silver charms.  We have found a fantastic charm supplier who has the most intricate silver charms.  As you can see from the picture to the left, the amount of details is enormous – look at the bootlace and the heel and top of the boot shimmers in the light as well.  Take a closer look at the boot charm and you’ll see what I mean.

It’s a strange business.  You put on pieces of jewellery you really think will do well and it doesn’t fly out the door.  But you put on something that you’re not sure about and people love it – and this silver pearl bunny rabbit belly bar is one of those situations.  It’s nice – it has a silver pearl for a body and silver face, ears and bunny feet.  For hygiene reasons it’s on a 316L surgical steel bar as are all our belly bars.

Having just posted about a dragonfly pendant, I thought I’d put up a page about dragonfly jewellery in general.  They are certainly popular and we are in the process of growing our collection of dragonfly jewellery.

Dragonfly Jewellery remains popular and some of our most popular jewellery pieces are shaped like dragon flies.  Just like this pendant, in fact.

The dragonfly is set in sterling silver and its two pairs of wings are made from mother of pearl.  Its silver body has clear cubic zirconia stones in it.  In size, the body is approx 23mm (not including the bale) and 31mm wide (wing tip to wing tip).  The total weight is around 2.4 grams.  As with all our pendants, it doesn’t include a chain but the image shows a snake chain which can be ordered from the dragonfly pendant page.

This is a pretty gift to give your valentine and it is an ornate silver heart pendant.  It is inlaid with Mother of Pearl and the front is convex with cutout flowers and vines.  The back of this silver pendant is flat and is of Mother of Pearl.

The designing team at Kit Heath are famous for making beautiful silver pendants and this example of amethyst jewellery (amethyst is also the february birthstone) certainly shows their skill at making simple and elegant pieces of jewellery.

The twisted silver pendant drops approx 45mm and has an eye at the top for your chain to go through (chain not included, as always).  At the bottom, it has 4 amethyst stones getting progressively smaller the higher they go.

Well, we’ve added a dozen belly bars to our body jewellery category now.  All are silver fitted to 316L surgical steel bars so they’re safe to wear unlike cheaper belly bars.  A lot have cubic zirconia stones which really catch the light – if you’re in a club they shine brightly which is always a bonus.

Just a quick message – I’m in the process of putting on some body jewellery on Milton Gems.  It’s belly bars at the moment to see how it goes but will be more than happy to put up other items when/if requested.
